BEMAC ‘Cultivart’ series presents
‘TUNES ASIA’ ~ ‘Amazing Tunes & Voices from Asia’

With prominent Tibetan musician and singer Tenzin Choegyal, a Master of traditional instruments such as the Dranyen (long-necked lute) and Lingbu (transverse bamboo flute). Tenzin is also accomplished on ritual instruments such as the Suna (reed instrument), and he utilises singing bowls, bells, and gongs within his compositions. Tenzin has an outstanding voice, rich and memorable in its poignancy and intensity.

Baatar Sukh from Mongolia, is a Master of the horse headed fiddle Morin chuur and throat singing, where two or three vocal lines are produced simultaneously by selectively amplifying harmonics.

Shigeru Yomei Nakajima from Japan, is an accomplished Kinko-ryu Shakuhachi Master who has performed in Japan, China and Australia (Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane).

Guest artist on the dance floor is Omar Pumar Romay, Theatre Director from ‘Orisha International Arts’ presenting traditional Balinese Mask Dance.

This week Matt Noone is on tour in Sydney (sarod rock-star!), so this Thursday's Checocho gig will feature Mbira Soul Music - Donna Gee, Ruth Bromley and Vanessa Smith - accompanied by Shen.

Simultaneously easy listening and danceable, Byron based World CitiZen is an 8-piece led by singer/songwriter and global nomad Yeshe. The music is a mix of traditional and original tunes focussed around the mbira (Zimbabwean thumb piano) and Yeshe's soothingly husky voice. The band also includes Afrian percussion, drums, double bass, cello, violin, guitar and backing vocals.

Tribalicious
The fantastically vibrant African drum and dance troupe Tribalicious will be turning up the heat once again for Pulse. Shaking their tush Afro style and crankin' out totally wicked beats - this is pure excitement!
