Pandit Debi Prasad Chatterjee is a distinguished name among Indian musicians as an outstanding Sitarist and a highly regarded teacher of Indian Classical Music. Since 1965 he received training from famous Late Pt.Nikhil Banerjee for 20 years - also trained extensively under Smt. Annapurna Devi. Since 1986, he became the disciple of World Famous Maestro Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. Since years he has been successfully performing in major Music Concerts all over India and abroad including Dover Lane Music Conference, North America Bengali Conference(NABC), National Programme of Music at All India Radio & Doordarshan, etc. He has played in numerous concerts across U.S.A., Canada, UK, Germany, Switzerland, Holland, Italy, France, Austria, Iceland, Ireland, Belgium, Luxemburg, etc. to propagate Indian Classical Music in the western World. Pt. Chatterjee has performed at major festivals around the world like the Inter Cultural School of Music in Venice, Lowell Folk Festival in USA, Arts Festival in Canada, etc. as well as major venues across the world. We are thankful to Pt. Chatterjee for his voluntary performance.

The traditional rhythms and stories of DidgeriSTU's Yadaki (didgeridoo) weave throughout pumping electronic beats, vocals, exotic woodwinds and world percussion - a unique fusion of organic world sounds and electronic music like no other.
OKA's live shows are inspiring, uplifting and emotionally charged, subtle and spontaneous. Their onstage energy is thrilling audiences wherever they perform. Having established themselves here in Australia, OKA have the world in their sights. They recently toured Canada for three months after a successful visit to Singapore . Experience an evening of European Folkloric delights
Drawing from the rich Gypsy, Cossack, Ukrainian, Polish, Finnish and Jewish traditions, Europe Express offers a unique musical journey celebrating classic folk melodies, and featuring Mike (Misha) Tolstoff and Amir Fakhri playing a broad repertoire of authentic European folk music.
Misha is an acclaimed player of the Balalaika, a 3–stringed Russian folk instrument from the guitar and lute family. Amir Fakhri, is a virtuoso Accordion player of Persian/Russian descent. He provides a traditional and romantic gypsy-style rhythmic accompaniment, and skilfully replicates the gypsy sounds of Violin and Clarinet.
Supporting Europe Express is accomplished Brisbane based group Zhiva Voda, exploring classic folk tales from Bulgaria and Macedonia through song and music.
Zhiva Voda features Bulgarian singer Reni Pavlova-Bojilov, George Gaydov on Gadulka (3-string Bulgarian Fiddle), Gaida (Macedonian Bagpipes) and Clarinet, supporting accomplished Australian singer and vocal arranger Ann Bermingham.
Reni draws on her extensive knowledge of Bulgarian folk music, evoking the beauty of the tradition, and with a powerful, soaring voice. Ann Bermingham brings to the ensemble broad experience and expertise, evoking the rich heritage and combining it with her passion for Macedonian and Bulgarian music. Band member George Gaydov has played traditional European instruments from childhood. Since coming to Australia he has performed throughout Queensland with a large number of European and Australian musicians.

* 6 week dance course
* 6 week intermediate drum course
In each of these courses the last class will be taught by Guinean master drummer and dancer Mohamed Bangoura (aka BK). This is included in the course cost. People are welcome to join in just for the last class with BK as a casual. The cost, if attending casually, will be $25, or $20/class if attending more than one.

The famed multiphonic singers of Tibet's Tashi Lhunpo Monastery will perform. With this unique style of singing, the monks simultaneously intone three different notes. They will also play traditional Tibetan instruments such as 10-foot-long dung-chen horns, drums, bells, cymbals and gyaling trumpets. They will be accompanied by Tibetan musician and singer Tenzin Choegyal who will also perform traditional Tibetan folk music.

SPANISH guitars didn’t exactly go with funky beats the way fish go with chips, however the Tijuana Cartel are showing the world just how good the combo can sound.
In an era where appropriation is worn almost like a badge of honour, this Gold Coast act buck the trend and continue to expand, experiment and draw influence from an ever-widening circle of world and club sounds.
Vocalist and lead guitarist Paul George’s flamenco strings slither over some tastefully broken beats, combined with Carey O’Sullivan’s primo electronic production, and rhythm guitar, have resulted in the bands two albums. First was a self-titled 2003 debut ep, which was featured on triple j's Home and Hosed, and Groove Train, and now their 2005 follow up album Frequent Flyers has evolved.
This new record brings splashes of Middle Eastern vocals to the mix, alongside some lilting Moby-esque soundscapes and get-up-and-dance beatfests - a club-friendly selection without a dull moment.
Tijuana Cartel, introduce a somewhat intelligent and original sound to the ear, bringing flamenco guitar,slide guitar, MCs, percussion, soaring female vocals and scratch DJs to the live forum and their list of shows and residencies proves just how well their beguiling sounds cross boundaries.

Zykado is Tunji Beier – one of Australia’s leading percussionists and Matthias Loebiner - internationally regarded as the world’s best hurdy-gurdy player.
Hurdy-gurdy is a kind of mechanical violin that uses a wheel instead of a bow to play the strings thus enabling an endless note, the instrument is also equipped with melody, buzzing (Trompette), drone and sympathetic strings.
Tunji’s virtuosic rhythms and finger techniques interweave with the unique sounds of Loibner’s hurdy gurdy. Matthias is a master of his instrument, creating moods, which evoke the distant past as well as sounds which are funky and futuristic.
Zydako will be joined by the Hurdy Gurdy Girls who play hurdy gurdies along with flute, piccolo, recorder, oboe and bowed psaltery and have been playing together for five years.
Their music encompasses the haunting melodies of 12th Century Spanish cantigas and the driving rhythms of medieval and traditional English, French, Italian and Celtic dance music as well as original and contemporary compositions written especially for the instrument.

‘Chinese Classical and Contemporary Music’
The tradition of the East meets the technology of the West in a collaborative concert featuring the traditional wind instruments of China and live computer processing. The concert features internationally acclaimed Chinese composer/musician Wang Zheng Ting and renowned local composer/music technologist, Mark Elliot.
Zheng-Ting Wang makes a tough acoustic cookie of a sound on his Sheng and it retains that quality of wind timbre no matter what kind of intervals are used in the structure.
The Sheng is one of the oldest Chinese musical instruments. The wind instrument existed as far back as 3,000 years ago.
Mark Elliot is currently undertaking a PhD at the Centre for Ideas, Victorian College of the Arts, researching and developing methods for large scale collaboration in conjunction with his artistic compositions.
In late 2003 Mark was awarded an Arts Victoria grant for the composition of a concerto for orchestra and sheng (Chinese mouth organ) which he has now completed and is awaiting its performance early next year.
By virtue of its construction, this is the only Chinese musical instrument in the Chinese orchestra capable of playing up to six notes simultaneously. It is therefore commonly called the "Chinese mouth organ" by western people. Sheng is also the first musical instrument in the world utilising a "coupled acoustical system," between a wind column and a free reed.
This unique collaborative concert is a one of a kind Australian music experience.

"Professor Squealy Deetbum is the world's leading researcher in Cycology (the art of playing the bicycle). He will be delivering a lecture demonstrating the fundamental principles of bicycle music.
Sounds are recorded live during the lecture with percussion, wind, and string sounds from the bike.
The Bicycle seat, the handlebar, the gear cable, bicycle pump, wheels, spokes and the bicycle frame are all turned into musical instruments. "Professor Squealy Deetbum is the world's leading researcher in Cycology (the art of playing the bicycle). He will be delivering a lecture demonstrating the fundamental principles of bicycle music.
Sounds are recorded live during the lecture with percussion, wind, and string sounds from the bike.
The Bicycle seat, the handlebar, the gear cable, bicycle pump, wheels, spokes and the bicycle frame are all turned into musical instruments. To celebrate International Women's Day on March 8th, the Worldly Women collective are putting on a special concert at the Maleny Community Centre. The concert will feature Brisbane singers Leah Cotterell, Anje West and Alison St Ledger performing individually as well as with acapella trio Rosa Canina (more info below). They will be supported by a funky 4 piece backing band including Jamie Clark (guitar), Andrew Shaw (double bass), Kym Ambrose (kit and vibes) and Elliott Orr (percussion).
Local talent including Skadi, The Sweet Chilli Choir and MTC Cronin will also perform.

As cultural diversity increases with media exposure, travel and migration, contemporary societies find themselves with an inspiring mix of new musics and audiences. To cater for the growing desire to learn music from other cultures, Young Conservatorium is developing a world music program, following the model of similar successful initiatives elsewhere in the world. From March, music lovers will be able to study flamenco and Indian classical music. From the second semester of 2007, Indonesian gamelan and African percussion will be added to the program. The World Music Program is being developed in collaboration with Queensland Conservatorium Research Centre and Brisbane’s multicultural arts centre BEMAC.

6 week beginners drum course and 6 week dance course
We're structuring the drum/dance course thang differently this year. Its time for Josie to do a dedicated dance course. So rather than doing the drum and dance as one course we're holding them back to back on the same evening. For the drummers out there, I want to tell you that learning the dance is incredible for improving your drumming. Also, I believe that when we talk about the 'healing power of the drum' it actually largely refers to the healing power of dance, that good drumming allows people to dance in a way that helps shed layers of resistance and blockage. Having said that I certainly want to add that playing rhythm is also very good for one's state of being, it can be very healing on subtle levels.
6 x 1&1/2 hour classes drumming or dance.
Wed nights Feb 21st, 28th, Mar 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th.
Drumming 7pm to 8.30pm.
Dance 8.30pm to 10pm.
Venue: AHIMSA house, 26 Horan St. West End.
Cost is $100 for either the drum or the dance course or $150 for both drum and dance courses. Casually, which is ok at the beginning of courses, cost $20 per class or if doing both on one occasion $30.

Feb 16-18 Crystal Waters - Drum & Dance Camp

Drum and Dance camp at Crystal Waters, Sunshine Coast hinterland
Basic details:
Friday 16th to Sunday 18th February at Crystal Waters which is located just before Connondale on the way from Maleny. The camp includes 4 drumming classes with me (Elliott) and 4 dance classes with Josie. Classes are one and a half hours long. All levels are welcome, great food by Vanessa of Tulsi Foods, swimming spot, camping or dorm's in a lush campsite, relaxing/jamming by night. We've kept it as inexpensive as possible – the whole camp including drum and dance, food and camping is $225 and to do either drum or dance is $195.

Launch the year with music for your soul
Experience the unique traditional music of two diverse Asian countries, Indonesia and Korea through the music of artists Michelle Kim and Efiq Zulfiqar.
Soothing melodies of Karawitan Sunda Music and the inspirational tunes of Korean traditional Gayageum (Zither-like stringed instrument) with South Korean vocals is a sensational way to launch the first of the BEMAC Cultivart series in 2007.
With strong traditional values and belief in her South Korean culture, Michelle Kim has performed in major Brisbane and International music festivals and events, honing her innate skills to professional precision. She will delight BEMAC audiences with her voice and virtuoso playing of the Gayageum.
Apart from the commitment he has as core member of well known bands ’Krakatau’ and ‘Sambasunda’ Efiq Zulfiqar found time to compose and create new music as a solo performer. In this concert Efiq will take you a journey through the traditional Karawitan Sunda music from the islands of West Java.

We are very delighted to bring return performances and workshops by Deva Premal and Miten in January and February 2007.
"Our music is born out of meditation and a celebration of life.
It's not a matter of entertaining people." says Miten.
By popular request, Deva and Miten are offering performances in each capital city, and Byron Bay. And for the first time they are offering workshops in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. (These workshops are a fun and intimate sharing with Deva and Miten and together we will be exploring and experiencing devotional singing, chanting, meditating, talking, sufi-circle dancing, laughing, praying, communing....And having loads of fun)
Again this year we are blessed that Manose will be joining the tour. Manose is a Nepalese bansuri player [Indian flute] and has been performing with Deva and Miten at most of their performances around the world. You can visit his website at www.manosemusic.com
