Chris Berry, Spankinhide and Tribalicious at the Zoo for the Big Bang Thursday January 19th.
The Big Bang returns to the Zoo for a one-off show presenting, in conjunction with Sydney’s Top Shelf Productions, Chris Berry. Chris will do an acoustic performance on the mbira (Zimbabwean thumb piano). Tribalicious supports and then Spankinhide becomes backup band for Chris as he rocks it out on the djembe performing such pieces as Vakourou, Tchisakoto, Katimbe, Dine, Mafuwe, Moukatitambe and Zebola.

Jan 11-13 - Drum/Dance courses with Elliott & Josie start

6 week combined Drum and Dance course with Elliott and Josie.
In Africa drumming and dance are ONE, the rhythm and movement inseparable, the one mirrored in the other. These classes are dedicated to providing understanding of this connection. Half of each class focuses upon the drumming & the other upon the dance, as the rhythm continues. Participants are encouraged to learn both or may choose to focus on either side of this union.

6 x 2 hour classes over 6 weeks.
Wed nights Jan 11th and 18th, and Feb 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd.
Culminates in a performance at the Feb Pulse.
AHIMSA house, 26 Horan St. West End.
Cost is $105 for the course.

5 week Intermediate Drum course
These classes are open to drummers with significant experience in African drumming, particularly on the djembe. Ability to play a clear tone and slap is a must.
5 x 2 hour classes over 5 weeks.
Thu nights Jan 12th and Feb 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd.
Culminates in a performance at the Feb Pulse.
Venue: St. Andrews Church Hall, cnr Vulture St. and Cordelia St, South Brisbane.
Cost is $87.50 for the course.

5 week Beginner Drum course
These classes are open to all drummers, or would-be drummers. No experience in African drumming necessary, as technique will be covered and traditional African rhythms taught.
5 x 2 hour classes over 5 weeks.
Fri nights Jan 13th and Feb 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th.
Culminates in a performance at the Feb Pulse.
Venue: Metro Arts, Level 4, 109 Edward St. City.
Cost is $87.50 for the course.
