Fri Feb 29 Virginia: Temple Concert - Manose (bansuri) + Shen (tabla)

Hi folks,

Shen's News: I had a really nice concert with Nepali bansuri player Manose near Byron on Friday, and he and I have a sudden booking - we are playing this Friday Feb 29 at the Sai Baba Temple (1614 Sandgate Rd Virginia). Manose is a lovely bansuri player and very entertaining. Please come along!

There are a lot of other good Indian classical events in the coming weeks - this Saturday night I highly recommend Pravaahee at the Old Museum with touring artists from India: a Kathak dancer, vocalist, tabla and harmonium.

Sat 23 Feb West End: Global Soul Music Vol 5 - Saikat, Asim, Cia & Shen

Shen's News: I have a couple of important shows this week - first up on Friday a lovely home concert in Ocean Shores with touring bansuri player from Nepal, Manose, then on Saturday in West End, the first Global Soul Music for the year. GSM Vol 5 will feature sitar player Saikat Bhattacharya, Persian multi-instrumentalist Cieavash Arean and Sudanese Sufi Bard Asim Gorashi, at the lovely Core Yoga city-view space at 5/72 Vulture St. Book tickets online at ethnosuperlounge.com/shop and get a discount!

I posted a copy of the flier on my blog along with a photo of a rehearsal with Cia, Asim & Saikat, and also some photos of the Bengali Society Saraswati Puja which was held last Saturday and at which Saikat and I played quite well, I think. :-)

Sat 16 Feb Stafford: Saraswati Puja Concert - Saikat Bhattacharya + Shen

Hi folks,

Shen's News: Things are definitely hotting up again after the summer madness. I have a very special concert in honour of Goddess Saraswati with sitar player Saikat Bhattacharya this Saturday. There are a lot of good Indian classical music performances coming up too - mark down Feb 22 (Ocean Shores), Feb 23 (West End), March 1 (Old Brisbane Museum - big dance performance!) and March 8 (sitar/vocal duet from India)! Also this week please check out Tashi Lhunpo Monks at the Judith Wright Centre.

In other news, Sri Saileshwara Temple in Virginia are going to be holding a free natural therapies day on 24 February from 10am to 4pm. Full info here.

Every Wed, West End: World Music Wednesdays with Shen @ The Forest

Shen's News: Wow, time flies. Since Taro left a couple of weeks back I've done almost nothing, especially on my computer. It's great to have a break! I've recently posted a whole bunch of photos from Taro's tour - Melbourne, the Great Journey, Woodford, and concerts with Steve and Ty from USA. Not much coming up in the immediate future - selling my van, Hilary, if anyone's interested?

6 + 8 Jan Brisbane: Home and Temple Bansuri Concerts - Taro Terahara's final shows this tour

Hi folks,

Shen's News: Happy New Year!!! I hope you've had a wonderful holiday season. Taro, myself and many others have just returned from a wet week at Woodford Folk Festival, surely one of the wettest Woodfords ever. It will take me a while to get back into gear and post photos etc, so for now I just want to announce this week's very special final concerts with Taro.

Before Taro heads back to Japan on the 9th, we have 2 final intimate concerts. The first will be an Indian classical flute home concert hosted by the Indian community in Pullenvale on Sunday. Then we have an exciting jugalbandi with touring sarod and tabla players Steve Oda and Ty Burhoe at the Sai Baba Temple in Virginia on Tuesday. Both concerts will offer the best atmosphere for enjoying this beautiful Indian classical music. Entry is by donation so there's no excuse not to come! :-)
