Sat Nov 26 Eumundi: Tibet2Timbuk2 @ House With No Walls

Hi folks,

Shen's News: Festive summer weather has come upon us and it's time to get out there and celebrate life, music and our wonderful multicultural world. Tibet2Timbuk2 are playing at The House With No Walls up in Eumundi this Saturday night, with special guest Harii Bandhu.

Next weekend Yuki and Megan are giving a 2 day Butoh and Oki-Do workshop in West End. Tune in to subtle vibrations and see the world like a child again.

Our good friend and regular summer visitor, Indian classical bansuri master Taro Terahara is on his way back to Brisneyland soon. We'll have just one show in Brisbane on Friday 9th Dec and a flute workshop/concert in Maleny on Sat 10th before doing a few shows with Tibet2Timbuk2 in Chenrezig on Sun 11th and then in NSW the following weekend. November world music from Turkey, Africa and India

Hi folks,

Shen's News: I don't have too much on this month - a Bengali Society function this Saturday and a Tibet2Timbuk2 show in Eumundi at the end of the month, but in the meantime some of my friends have some excellent concerts I want to let you know about. This Saturday BEMAC's free monthly Planet concert at the Powerhouse features Turkish music. Then on Sunday Yeshe is having a patio concert next to the Brisbane River at Elliott's place.

Next weekend Indian classical violin maestro Kala Ramnath is performing in Bangalow with American tabla player Ty Burhoe. Unfortunately they aren't coming to Brisbane so I'll be driving down especially for the concert. Let me know if you'd like to come along too.

Hi folks,

Shen's News: It's been over two months since I've written, during which time I've been all around Japan and blogged about my time there for two weeks with Tenzin and then another month or so with other friends. Since returning to Brisbane I've been enjoying lessons with my tabla students again, who all did very well in their recent tabla exams.

This Friday Tibet2Timbuk2 are back with a special show at Crystal Waters eco-village (near Maleny), with special guest Nicholas Ng on erhu (Chinese violin). Then on Sunday Qld Multicultural Festival is on at Roma St Parklands, always an enjoyable festival. Please come and see me play with two of my students at the Children's Stage from 1245-1pm.

Hi folks,

Shen's News: I have an exciting few weeks of Indian classical music ahead with sarod player Soumya Chakraverty visiting us from USA. This Saturday night I'll be accompanying him and sitar player Shrabani Choudhury in the Strings of India concert in Sunnybank. Next weekend Soumya and I will be joined by Soumya's 1986 Calcutta Boys School classmate, Brisbane sitar player Saikat Bhattacharya for concerts in Ocean Shores on Friday July 1st and Brisbane Powerhouse on Saturday 2nd. Soumya and I are also in Maleny on Sunday 3rd. And coming up on Sat July 9th, one of the major highlights of my year, the 4th Annual Ashu Babu Memorial Tabla School Concert, a wonderful event not to be missed, this year featuring at least 12 kids performing on tabla.

Hi folks,

Shen's News: I've posted some photos from my May concerts including Sugata Marjit, the Ramakrishna Vedanta Centre Fundraiser and Caboolture Sacred Music Festival. This weekend it's Tibet2Timbuk2 time - we'll be playing in the afternoon at Zillmere Multicultural Festival, and then in the evening at the Tabo Benefit Concert in New Farm.

Please note my tabla Indian Tabla and Vocal Rhythms Workshop at Threeworlds Byron next Saturday afternoon (June 11th)! I really hope to start teaching regularly down in Byron, so your help in spreading the word would be much appreciated.

Shen's News: I'm back from my 2 months in India (photos of Varanasi and Parvati Valley now on my blog) and have quite a few workshops in the coming month. This weekend I have some workshops in Indian vocal rhythms and tabla in Byron on Saturday and Mermaid Beach on Sunday. On May 14/15 Yuki and I will be back in Byron for Yuki's mantra and butoh workshops. I'm really making an effort to do more activities in Byron this year so please come along and join in the fun of NaDhinDhinNa and SaReGaMa and help us to keep it all happening.

Hi folks,

Shen's News: Namaste from the banks of Ganga River in Varanasi. Since playing at Saraswati Puja the day after arriving here, I've been through a bit of illness and recovery and recently enjoyed the Dhrupad Mela and a Rakesh Chaurasia (bansuri) concert on the festival of Shivaratri.

I'm writing today especially because there's a fantastic concert at Brisbane Powerhouse this Monday 7th by bansuri and shehnai master Rajendra Prasanna. He will be accompanied on tabla by Shubh Maharaj, grand-nephew of Benares gharana legend Pt Kishan Maharaj and a wonderful example of the style. Highly recommended (especially to my students!)!

Sat 22 Jan Mt Gravatt: Bansuri recital by Taro Terahara

Shen's News: Happy New Year! I hope you're all well and have survived the floods without too many losses - and if you have, please accept my sincere sympathy. I've been busy over Christmas with a family trip in Victoria, followed by the muddy Woodford Folk Festival, where my tabla group Tabla Tarrango and Tibet2Timbuk2 both performed and made some good connections. Please have a look at the video of Tabla Tarrango's show. Since last writing, I've also posted blogs about Tibet2Timbuk2 at Byron Community Centre on Dec 3 and Yuki's Nada Yoga workshop in West End the following day.

Bansuri whiz Taro Terahara is coming to our shows this Friday and we have a few very special concerts coming up. First up this Saturday you can catch his Indian classical raga performances at Garden City Library. Next weekend we're heading to Wauchope (central NSW) and then back for an Intimate Indian Monsoon acoustic concert with special guests Tibet2Timbuk2 on Sunday in Byron.

Feb 3-5 is the main event: Festival of Tibet. Tibet2Timbuk2 and Taro will be performing at the Tibet - Awakened Heart concert on Sat Feb 5. The flood has hit the festival in that all the posters and postcards were lost, so please spread the word by forwarding this email, and also by printing out and putting up some festival posters.

Fri Dec 3 Byron: Tibet2Timbuk2 and friends

Hi folks,

Shen's News: Well the Snow Lion Japan tour with Tenzin Choegyal and Taro Terahara was a big success and lots of fun. Tenzin and Taro have just put out a beautiful, meditative CD entitled "Snow Lion" in Japan and "Tibet: Awakened Heart" in Australia. I've posted photos and video of our concerts and mountain walks on my blog and on Facebook, as well as some overdue photos of Tibet2Timbuk2 and Nabanita Chowdhury concerts last month.

The big news this week is Tibet2Timbuk2's concert at Byron Community Centre on Friday. We'll have some very special guests - Yuki Taniguchi fresh off the plane from Japan will open with melting mantras, and T2T2 will be joined by Peter Hunt from Kooii and Byron bansuri player Armando Ornano. Tenzin wrote some beautiful new songs in Japan which we're looking forward to playing in such a nice venue as Byron Community Centre. Please share the news - here's the Facebook event page.

Yuki will give a Nada Yoga workshop at Zen Central this Saturday and a butoh workshop the following Saturday. I'll be playing in the kirtan part of the Nada Yoga workshop this week.

Shen's News: Concert season is upon me and I'll be participating in 4 events this weekend, before embarking on a big adventure. On Friday I'll be accompanying beautiful Indian classical singer Nabanita Chowdhury at a home concert in St Lucia (flier attached), then on Saturday Tibet2Timbuk2 are playing from 12-230 in the Queen St Mall. Saturday evening I'll be participating in the Bengali Society of Queensland's Durga Puja celebrations, but I'm sorry I don't have details to share on that one. Then on Sunday it's the huge annual Qld Multicultural Festival, where I'll be quite busy with Tibet2Timbuk2, Saikat Bhattacharya, and Feridun Avar.

Next week Tenzin and I are heading off to Japan for a month-long tour with bansuri whiz Taro Terahara. We've created a tour page on Facebook, so if you have any friends in Japan please share that page with them.

Sep 11/12 - Kooii CD launches feat. Tibet2Timbuk2

Hi folks,

Shen's News: I'm really looking forward to Tibet2Timbuk2's concerts this weekend in support of the most excellent Kooii's CD launch, firstly on Saturday at Northey St City Farm (we're on around 7) and then on Sunday up in Crystal Waters (we're on around 3pm I think). Our next shows are in October, at Bellingen Global Carnival Oct 1-3 and then a couple of shows Oct 16-17 including Qld Multicultural Festival. Tenzin and I will be off to Japan for a few weeks after that.

I've had a bit of time off, ruined a laptop, recovered to a new one, and finally caught up with some blogging, posting nice photos of the Vinod Prasanna tour, the 3rd Annual Ashu Babu Memorial Tabla School Concert, Yuki's mantra workshop in Maleny, Nritya Bharati School of Dance concert 2010 and a concert for QUT Indian Independence Day featuring one of my students.
