Jul 5-9 Bris/Nimbin - African Drum/Dance courses

4 week combined Drum and Dance course with Elliott and Josie.


In Africa drumming and dance are ONE, the rhythm and movement inseparable, the one mirrored in the other. These classes are dedicated to understanding this connection. Half of each class focuses upon the drumming & the other half upon the dance. The music for the dance class is played by Elliott and friends. Participants are encouraged to learn both or may choose to focus on either side of this union.

4 x 2 hour classes over 4 weeks.
Wed nights July 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th.
Culminates in a performance at the July 29th Pulse.
AHIMSA house, 26 Horan St. West End.
Cost is $70 for the course.

3 week Intermediate Drum course

These classes are open to drummers with significant experience in African drumming, particularly on the djembe. Ability to play a clear tone and slap is a must.
3 x 2 hour classes over 4 weeks.
Thu nights July 6th, 13th and 27th.
Culminates in a performance at the July 29th Pulse.
Venue: St. Andrews Church Hall, cnr Vulture St. and Cordelia St, South Brisbane.
Cost is $50 for the course.

4 week Beginner Drum course


These classes are open to all drummers, or would-be drummers. No experience in African drumming necessary, as technique will be covered and traditional African rhythms taught.

4 x 2 hour classes over 4 weeks.
Fri nights July 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th.
Culminates in a performance at the July 29th Pulse.
Venue: July 7th and 14th at St. Andrews Church Hall, cnr Vulture St. and Cordelia St, South Brisbane.
July 21st and 28th at Metro Arts, Level 4, 109 Edward St. City.
Cost is $70 for the course.

Plus African Drum Camp with Gambian Master Drummer King Marong

Nimbin 8-9 July
Held at Blisseeon – situated on 20 acres 13km’s North of Nimbin in the heart of the Northern Rivers region. This awesome property gives us 360 degree views of The Tweed Valley Caldera, including magnificent views of : the ‘place of first light’, Wollumbin (Mt Warning), as well as Sphinx Rock, Hanging Rock, The Pinnacle and The Border Rangers.
The weekend will be full of learning from beginners to advanced classes catering for all needs. Story and dance of the rhythms will be shared nightly around the camp fire. George Peel will be on site for any drum repairs and orders.
