Umakant and Ramakant, prominently known as Gundecha Brothers are one of India’s leading exponents of the Dhrupad style of music and the most active young performers of Dhrupad in India and international circuits.
Received their conventional university education and learned the Dhrupad vocal art under the renowned Dhrupad vocalist Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar and Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar (the distinguished performer of Rudra Veena) in Dhrupad Kendra Bhopal. The Brothers received national Fellowship (1993) by Govt. of Madhaya Pradesh and Daga Gharana Award by Mewar Foundation (2001). Performed at many important International music festivals and institutions in Europe, U.S.A, Australia, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Bangladesh, U.A.E etc.
Akhilesh Gundecha, the youngest of the Gundecha Brothers, will accompany Umakant and Ramakant on the Pakhawaj, Mrs Shubha & Dr Rashpi on Tanpura. Akhilesh Gundecha is a prominent Pakhawaj Player of India and learned this art from Pandit Shrikant Mishra and Raja Chhatrapati Singh Jundeo. Mrs Shubha Sankaran will be presenting a solo performance of Sur Bahar, which she learnt from Ustad Imrat Khan.
